The 2012 MFC will be played at Northwest Soccer Park in Bellingham, Washington.

The dates of the event are July 10-15, 2012. The park has played host to four

national USASA tournaments in the past fifteen years.

The complex features 12 grass fields, with the entire tournament played at one location. A beer garden and aspectacular view of Mount Baker. The location is close to the Seattle, the San Juan Islands, whale watching, wineries, some of the best microbreweries on the plant and oh yes - Victoria and Vancouver, BC.

Why the Masters Futbol Cup National Soccer Championships?

Game Guarantee -Each team is guaranteed three – 90 minute matches, with up to five matches possible if a team makes the final.

 

We also have the extra game guarantee: if your team is eliminated after preliminary round play and you wish to play an additional match, so long as you can find an opponent, the additional game free compliments of the tournament.


No Cross Division games because of a lack of teams – The Masters Futbol Cup will only run team brackets that are viable. Teams are not required to play crossover games with other age brackets. In 2011 we had 0-30, 0-40, 0-50, 0-55, 0-60 and 0-65 brackets for women, with men’s0-30, 0-40, 0-55, 0-60 and 0-65 brackets. The top two finishers in each of these

brackets received prize money.

Tournament Party for participants – A party for tournament participants will be held on Friday night at Northwest Soccer Park.

Prize Money – the top two teams in each division receive a cash prize based upon the number of participants in each division.

 

Experience Counts - This event is sponsored by the Idaho State Soccer Association and the Washington State Adult SoccerAssociation. It is run by the most experienced adult tournament administrative team in North America. Paul Scherer and

 Two  teams that participated in the 2011 MFC women’s over-65 division are back for 2012. They are Jacquie Burt and Be Still Standing from the San Diego area and Maj Surowiecki and Baby Boomers from the state of Washington. These entries mean we are half way to our goal of having a four team  division in this age group in 2012.

Friends –

 It is with great pride that I announce that two teams (one women’s, one men’s)from South Africa are entering the 2012 Masters Futbol National Soccer Championships.

The tournament will be played July 10-15, 2012 at Northwest Soccer Park in Bellingham, Washington. The South African teams join the Tokyo Seniors from Japan to add a strong international favor to the event.

The organizers of the MFC first met the Soccer Grannies from South Africa in Massachusetts in 2010 right after the World Cup finished in their home country. Beka Ntsanwiki, the organizer for Soccer Grannies, contacted us recently and asked if her team could participate in the 2012 MFC and along with the Soccer Grandpas. We extended a formal invitation to them, which they have accepted. Beka can be seen in the picture below second from the left.

The Masters Futbol Cup Co-Chairs Paul and Tim spent this last weekend in San Diego attending to soccer business including visiting with our friends from San Diego. The 2012 Masters Futbol Cup Nationals Soccer Championships has been selected as one three tournaments to pilot a new training program for

adult referees designed by the United States Adult  Soccer Association (USASA).  John Motta, Chairman of USASA Referee Committee

made the announcement Saturday in Clearwater Beach, Florida as part of the USASA Mid-Year meeting. The program is designed to provide

a bridge for younger officials between youth and adult games. Training is designed to deal with the unique challenges of officiating adult players.

Transitional training for young referees was pioneered by Betty Schmeck, the former Washington State Referee Administrator.  Donnie Roberts,

current Washington State Referee Administrator was instrumental in with working with Motta to bring the program to Washington.

The 2012 Masters Futbol Cup National Soccer Championships will be held at Northwest Soccer Park in Bellingham, Washington, July 10-15, 2012.

The Masters Futbol Cup has jumped to 45 teams with the inclusion of :

Steve Schmidt and the Olympia Stubbies in the men’s over-30 division.

Robin Gordon and I are working on finalizing the game schedule as soon

as possible. When the schedule is completed it will be sent to you. Also,

a fourth team will be added to both the men’s and women’s over-40

divisions.

The Masters Futbol Cup has extended registration until June 1, 2011. We

currently have 36 teams registered for 2011 (see below). Tournament information and

and assistance with player  recruitment can be found at:

Masters Futbol Cup to host top Concacaf Referee Official

 

Every great tournament requires great officiating. In an effort to support the officials that

will be doing games in our tournament, we have secured the services of former US FIFA

Referee Brian Hall from North California to provide training for referees. He was a FIFA referee

from 1992 until he retired in 2007 at the mandatory retirement age of 45. He refereed two games

in the 2002 FIFA World Cup. He has also been named MLS Referee of the Year in 2003, 2005 2006,

and 2007. Hall is the director of referee administration and instruction for Concacaf (the Confederation

of North, Central American and Caribbean Association Football). He formerly served as the US Soccer

Manager of Referee Assessment and Training

Many thanks to Washington SRA Betty Schmeck for her efforts to secure Brian’s services for our

event!

Friends –

The Masters Futbol Cup National Soccer Championships are pleased to

announce that the tournament has selected the Best Western Plus Lacey

Inn and Suites as our host hotel for 2011. The hotel is brand new and

provides breakfast as a part of the package. The hotel has 84 rooms

so it will fill up fast. It is located about a mile from the tournament

site, just east of Interstate 5.

NEWS REGARDING THE OVER-30 WOMEN’S AND

MEN’S DIVISIONS!

Teams in these two brackets will begin play either

Thursday night or Friday in a more condensed schedule

from teams in other divisions. All other divisions, over-40

and above begin play on Wednesday. If your team has any

questions, please contact me either via email or by phone.

 

2011 Masters Futbol Cup National Soccer Championship

Basics:

 

1)    All matches are 90 minutes in length with free substitution.

2)    In round robin play, tie games stands after 90 minutes

3)    Each team may carry a roster of up to 25 players.

4)    Each player is required to have a valid USASA player pass.

Teams/players in need of passes may register with the

Washington State Adult Soccer Association.

5)    The MFC will host a tournament party for all participants

on Friday, July 8th.
